„Zurückblickend auf die Filme, die ich gemacht habe, wie Auschwitz and the Allies, The Roots of Evil, Torture, The Longest Hatred, schien es mir ein logischer Schritt zu sein, zu versuchen, Menschenrechte für ein Fernsehpublikum interessant und packend darzustellen.
Das habe ich zwölf Jahre lang für BBC Television gemacht. Im Wesentlichen wollte ich zuerst eine Reaktion und dann ein Engagement, den Menschen, die in den Programmen gezeigt werden, zu helfen.“ (Rex Bloomstein.)
"It has been said that Human Rights are the idea of our time. But every day we see and hear evidence that suggests these dense but valiant attempts to bind nations to codes of conduct in the treatment of their citizens, and the citizens of other countries, in peace and war are blatantly ignored. The effect on most of the world's
citizens is despair and cynicism at the gulf between intention and reality. Looking back on the films I have made such as Auschwitz and the Allies, The Roots of Evil, Torture, The Longest Hatred, it seemed a logical step to try and make Human Rights both interesting and compelling to a television audience. This I did for 12 years on BBC Television. Essentially I wanted first a reaction and then a commitment to help those people featured in the programs."
